A Sense of Responsibility
About Richard Spangler
I am running for office because I believe we need to have a sense of responsibility to all of the people in our community. Over the years I have raised a wonderful family, took part in a myriad of after-school activities, and participated in local Democratic politics. But most importantly I have had the honor to be an educator at the literacy center and serve as the Director of the Christ Episcopal Church's Food Pantry.
As Director of the Christ Episcopal Church's Food Pantry I have been a front-row participant to an inept Republican state legislature that has led Ohio's economy down the drain. Most of the people we serve at th e food pantry are the chronically underpaid and over worked and only come to the pantry every couple of months because they believe the pantry is for the truly needy. A lot of "middle class" people come for help because of a disability or a job loss and the inability to find a replacement job that would pay the same living wage. I also regularly see many retired people who have always been self-sufficient, until the surging cost of living over came their limited income.
My experience in talking and working with people in need has reinforced my beliefs that surging prices and stagnant wages are the issues of the day and will frame all the other important issues; real wage jobs, costs for health care, college tuition, providing the necessities of life for yourself and your family.
As we take steps to help improve our economy, it is important that, as a community, in good times, and in tough times, our ideals endure. As your next State Representative, I will bring to Columbus, a sense of social responsibility and compassion for all of our citizens; I will bring Change That Works!
Thanks,
Richard Spangler
